DAY TWENTY TWO: Langkawi
Please enjoy these highlights from the Mangrove Boat Tour I went on with @devsadventuretours
I had an excellent time. Our guide, Zach, had so much information and answered all of my questions. We went into a bat cave 🦇, through the mangroves, saw a pit viper, a monitor lizard swimming, visited the feeding spot for the brahminy kites, avoided the macaques who are very cheeky monkeys, fiddler crabs, mudskippers. It was an excellent tour with a focus on environmental sustainability 👍
1. Brahminy kite’s feeding area. We did not, but some bad tours feed them chicken skins to give the tourists a good show. This is bad for the kites and the hormones in the chickens can eventually cause soft egg shells, in turn causing the mothers to squash their weak eggs.
2-5. Details from the mangroves. The long tailed macaques beg for food from passing tours and can be very aggressive. The locals, including our guide, refer to them as the “mafia” 🤣 🐒
6. Ten points if you can see the mangrove pit viper in this photo 🐍
7-8. The mangroves and islands are part of the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, meaning it is geologically and environmentally significant
9. Stalactites inside the bay cave
10. Mudskippers fighting. I’m obsessed with these weird fish. They can’t breathe air so they fill their cheek pouches with water and climb up at low tide to feed. When they fight apparently they target the water sack of their opponent to end the fight quickly 😆
