"Food, Forests & The Future"
Four years growth! There is now regenerative revolution occuring in agriculture, and more and more people are awakening to the power of partnering with nature. The linguistic root of agriculture translates to "care of the land", and yet most conventional agriculture is more akin to mining, with a net extraction of minerals and organic matter from the landscape.
Food forestry offers an alternative, mimicking natural forests by establishing carefully designed relationships between edible perennial species. These fantastic foodscapes catch & store water naturally, increase soil fertility & biodiversity, and yield a prolific, varied, and increasing harvest, requiring less and less maintenance over time.
Resilient & adaptive in the face of climate instability, food forestry has been called "Gardening for 1000 Years" by our colleague and mentor Richard Walker, and for good reason. These edible ecosystems are designed to survive without human inputs, and if humanity is to thrive over the next 1000 years, food forestry and perennial edibles will be at the heart of our food systems, just they were before annual agriculture took over at the dawn of civilization.
If you are interested in transforming your own life and landscape though the magic of food forestry, this winter is a great time to start visioning and planning. Send us a message if you want a helping hand! 🌱🍓🌳
