Eugen Sandow (1867-1925), un atleta de origen prusiano considerado el padre del culturismo moderno ya que fue el primero en realizar exhibiciones en las que mostraba su musculatura. Sandow pregonaba un «ideal griego» en cuanto a las proporciones de las diferentes partes del cuerpo humano y fue uno de los primeros en comercializar equipos mecánicos para la realización de ejercicios, tales como pesas y poleas. Sandow también organizó el primer concurso de culturismo, celebrado el 14 de septiembre de 1901 en el Royal Albert Hall de Londres. El concurso se llamó The Great Competition (La Gran Competición). En Sandow encontramos también antecedentes directos de uno de los elementos esenciales del culturismo: la pose. Con Sandow, las exhibiciones de la musculatura se hacen bajo ciertas poses que evidencian de forma contundente el desarrollo muscular alcanzado. It was a great peach day today :) . . . 50 hip adductions 50 hip abductions 30 tuck ups 25 fire hydrants 25 kick backs 50 two handle rows 35 glute kickback machine 100 leg pulse extensions Today rocked!! I swam for about an hour, then played water polo for the second hour of practice!!! Then I went to get dinner and splurged a bit on ice cream and calories but was able to get to the gym to burn some of that off 🥳
