Freedom..... I watched a video on YouTube last week about the reason why more and more black people are moving to Asia. The top three reasons were freedom, finances, and safety. In the start of the video a black man who has been living in Asia for almost 40 years says, “Here in Japan I am a free black man.” I just want to touch on the word freedom. I’m sure plenty of people will read this and think “what is she talking bout, I am free.” Yeah, I thought the same way too. But moving to Asia has shown me that we are free in America, but only to an extent.
I often see videos of police abusing their power STILL, and I think wow, you just ruined a persons whole day simply because you can.
I will be honest, living in Vietnam done turned me into a whole heathen outchea. Lol. I kid, I kid... well kinda. The thing is, the cops aren’t looking for reasons to bother ppl. I have no clue what all the rules and laws are, but it seems as long as you’re minding your business and being civil to people, you’re good.
Men (locals mainly) be out here pissing on side of the street everyday. That’s a regular thing. Once you see it a few times, it’s like whatever, he had to pee. I can only wonder what would happen to a black man in America if someone seen him peeing on side of a busy street. The biggest deal would be made out of it.
I remember running into an older black man in Bangkok. He lived there for many years and owned a small bar. We talked about how good it feels to live over here. He never had plans to move back to the States. After living that free, he said he’d feel like he was going backwards moving to the States. As a black man he had grown fearful. He just didn’t feel safe there.
It’s sad that American citizens, in almost 2020 still don’t feel safe in their own country because of the color of their skin. I will just never understand it. I don’t try to anymore. I’m glad I got away from it all. I’m glad I’m free.
